What is Botox?

BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of both moderate to severe crow’s feet and frown lines in the forehead and around the face in adults.

How does Botox work?

Botox is used to temporarily and partially paralyze the muscles involved in creating the wrinkles or lines on the face. As the muscles cannot function at full capacity, the appearance of the wrinkling decreases.

How is Botox delivered?

Botox injections are site specific and mostly painless. An accurate assessment of your health history as well as your specific needs is taken into account to determine your individual dosing.

How long does it take Botox to work?

The effects of an initial placement of Botox become visible within 10-14 days. Any refinement is done on the 12th-14th day after which no further dosages can be administered for a 3 month period.

How long does Botox last?

Botox typically lasts 3 months after initial placement. However, regular quarterly maintenance will allow the effects to stretch to longer intervals over time.

Does Botox damage the muscles?

Botox does not typically cause any muscle damage. Anatomical landmarks should be observed to ensure that no Botox is injected close to the optic nerves.

Why do we provide Botox?

As an aesthetic practice, managing facial anatomy and esthetics is a natural extension of our treatment. Our patients also enjoy the fact that they can say they’re having dental work when they come in for their BOTOX ® treatment.

What causes wrinkles?

Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet. BOTOX ® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet.

What is Botox?

BOTOX ® Cosmetic contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum . This purified form has no infectious potential. Approximately 10.9 million vials of BOTOX ® Cosmetic have been sold in the United States since 2002, and millions of people have already made BOTOX ® Cosmetic a part of what they do for themselves. Today, BOTOX ® Cosmetic is the #1 selling product of its kind in the world.
