Dental Insurance Information:  Frederick MD Dentist

Our office is pleased to work with Dental Insurances. Dental insurance can be confusing to understand.  That is why we at Frederick Dental in Frederick MD do our best to educate patients about their plants and copayments.  We provide patients treatment plans detailing our best estimate based on information gathered by from the insurance.  Dental plans are employer specific so there are as many plans and coverage levels as there are employers. The employer purchases benefits so if there are shortfalls in your coverages you should speak directly with your human resources department to possibly increase benefits payable by a specific dental plan.    In order to know what your coverages are we request from the insurance a benefit breakdown and base our estimate based on this breakdown. Keep in mind when we call for an insurance breakdown the insurance tells us the following:  "any benefits given over the phone, fax or otherwise are only an estimate of benefis and that actual benefits can only be determined when a claim is received"      There are many exclusions that are impossible to know as the insurance often times applies limitations such as LEAT or Least expensive alternate treatment.  One such example could be where a patient is missing a toothand the coverage shows coverage for a bridge but a limitation clause would allow the insurance to only pay for a partial denture versus a permanent bridge causing a significant decrease in the insurances liability and a much higher patient copayment. One hidden way a dental insurance company writes a contract to save both the insurance and the employer premium dollars.

As a courtesy to our patients we file insurance claims to their respective carriers.  Some plans however have provisions stipulating the insurance payments go directly to the insured or patient and in those cases payment is expected at the time of service and a claim is submitted on behalf of the insured.

We accept most dental plans excluding Dental HMO where you are forced to see a specific dentist. We believe it is a patients choice to determine what is best for them so we encourage our patients to look into other types of dental plans incuduing indemmity or PPO plans.

Some of the more common dental plans we accept are as follows:

Aetna, Ameritas, Assurant, Anthem BlueCross, BlueCross Blue Shield, BlueCross Blue Shield FEP,  Cigna, Delta Dental, Dentaquest, Guardian, Government Employers Health Association (GEHA), Humana, MetLife, Principal, United Health Care and United Concordia to name a few.
